Hampton Behavioral Health Center has successfully provided TRICARE®-certified treatment and specialized military programming for service members and their families since 1986. Hampton Behavioral Health Center offers quality behavioral health, diagnostic and treatment services for servicemen and women, veterans and their dependents.
For recently returning service members and veterans who have been diagnosed with Service-related trauma (formerly known as PTSD), Hampton Behavioral Health Center offers a specialized Intensive Outpatient Program. Our military services program focuses on enhancing coping skills and maximizing resiliency. Our military services program, which runs three hours, four days a week, provides a structured environment in which survivors of military trauma can share experiences with peers under the guidance of a licensed clinician. The group members work through trauma-related themes and prepare themselves to focus on the present, allowing them to move on with their lives.
The military services program begins with a comprehensive assessment that includes an evaluation by a member of our psychiatric medical staff. If clinically indicated, medication can be prescribed to help reduce the anxiety, depression and insomnia that accompany Service-related trauma (formerly known as PTSD). Treatment is based on the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which involves learning skills for effectively communicating and relating to others. Cognitive processing therapy (CPT), an adaptation of CBT, is also utilized and is known to work well with combat vets who have experienced trauma. Survivors will also participate in non-verbal trauma therapies, such as journaling and visual imagery. Patients are taught relaxation techniques and the importance of sleep, exercise and nutrition for their recovery. To support a healthy lifestyle, substance abuse and relapse prevention will be incorporated into the program when appropriate.
Our military services program is dedicated to active duty, recently discharged service personnel and veterans. Our staff works closely with military command, on-base providers and the Veterans Administration to ensure continuity of care for patients once they have completed the program. We are in close proximity to the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst military installations and are easily accessible as a treatment provider for active duty service members and their dependents. Please call Hampton’s Access Center at 800-603-6767 or 609-518-2100 to inquire about any of our programs.
