At Hampton Behavioral Health Center, we believe that adolescence is a time of growth, development and change; a time when young people form a positive self-image and learn to be independent and responsible. But for many young people, these challenges cause emotional distress, resulting in self-defeating behaviors that include depression, substance abuse, school problems and family conflicts. Whether these behavioral problems are due to medical or environmental factors, Hampton helps teens develop more constructive ways to cope.
A Clear Focus On Achieving Goals
At Hampton, the goal of the therapeutic process is to help teens understand themselves and who they can become. Adolescents receive help to identify problems, face challenges, learn to handle frustration, generate solutions and realistically assess the value of their accomplishments.
Our staff encourages communication and trust. Adolescents learn how their attitudes, communication skills and emotions influence their behaviors and relationships, and they learn to recognize problems by identifying with others who share similar issues. This process of self-discovery helps change self-defeating patterns. Most importantly, teens learn to exercise wise judgment, understand the consequences of their actions and choose constructive alternatives. Hampton’s adolescent programs are suited for teens between the ages of 12 and 18 (if still in high school).
At Hampton, adolescents gain:
- A sense of responsibility
- An ability to trust
- Healthy recreational alternatives to drugs and alcohol
- Group unity
- Sensitivity to relationships
Programs Tailored To Each Teen
Hampton’s treatment approaches respond to each adolescent’s specific needs. After an initial assessment, the adolescent may be referred to one of the following programs:
Inpatient Program
For teens with acute behavioral health symptoms, inpatient treatment at Hampton Behavioral Health Center provides a safe environment tailored to the unique needs of adolescents, where behavior and medication can be closely monitored.
Activities include individual therapy, group therapy and creative therapies. An educational component is included in the programming schedule to allow patients to continue with their academics. Groups focus on solving problems, learning life skills, building self-esteem and understanding relationships. Patients are assessed for drug and alcohol use and receive education on the issue of substance abuse. Medication education is provided so that patients can better understand and manage their illness.
Outpatient Programs
In many cases, adolescents who require treatment do not need the protective environment of the inpatient setting. In such cases, Hampton Counseling Center has a variety of programs to help adolescents who may be depressed or are having trouble adjusting to changes in their lives.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Specifically designed for adolescents, the Adolescent Partial Hospitalization program addresses the needs of young people (ages 12 through 18) who have emotional and behavioral problems. This outpatient alternative is especially helpful to adolescent patients (ages 12-18) who need substantial support to fully function in the community. For many patients, the Partial Hospitalization Program eases the transition from inpatient care. Activities promote wellness, build coping skills, enhance self-esteem and maximize independence. The program is offered five days per week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It provides clinical services including group counseling, family therapy, life skills education, chemical dependency education, a weekly multi-family group and academic tutoring.
Intensive Outpatient Program
An after-school Intensive Outpatient Program is offered four days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 3 to 6 p.m. Activities promote wellness, build coping skills, enhance self-esteem and maximize independence. Hampton provides transportation from school to the program for participants who live within a 30-minute radius of the facility. Parents are expected to provide transportation home at 6 p.m.
